15 th August
Last few days I was really busy writing a review paper on dark
energy. But at the same time keep an eye in FB, as there were many posts
both interesting and boring on 15 August: two completely different
aspects – National mourning day and Birthday of Khaleda Zea. The last
part is completely boring, as I have no business about it. I even not
interest in her birthday, let alone whether it is on 15 th August or
some other day. But many people, including some friends wrote about it,
which naturally popped up in my FB page. Felt disgusted. I am sure Mrs.
Zia or her allies didn’t even look at those posting but got some free
PR. Remember – negative PR also PR, it reminds people about their
existence. The first part was to pay tribute to Bangabandhu Sheikh
Mujibur Rahman. There were many good posts, many emotional, but a few
really objective. Our subcontinent has got three outstanding figures
(though in fact there are much more) to be named as father of the
nation. Mahatma Gandhi was killed just after the independence of India
by a fanatic Hindu. He is still one of the most respected figures not
only in India, but in the world. And independent to who comes to power
in India, they did their best to avoid any controversy regarding Gandhi.
I think it was the result of the then National Congress to make him a
national leader rather than using his image for party interest. I have
little idea about Jinnah. But as far as I can understand, he is too left
above party interest. Bangabandhu, for his contribution to our
independence deserves more from the country, from the nation. We Bengali
nation has the history to respect their celebrities, be it Tagore or
Netajii Subhas Bose, S.N. Bose or Iswar Chandra, Haji Md. Mohsin or
Ser-i-Bangla. There are n numbers of example in our long history. So why
can’t this nation pay due respect to their one of the best, if not the
best children? For this to happen he should be kept above party
politics. And it depends more on the attitude of his friends and
followers than his political foes. 40 years is to too much to understand
this simple thing.
