After one long year
Just one year ago, this day we were all waiting for the long
waited verdict on war crime. Not long ago we met PM in Moscow where she
was in official visit. During the meeting we expressed our concern about
the ongoing process and demanded the war criminal be punished. So when
the time came, everyone was waiting for the highest penalty. I myself is
always against death sentence, but given the fact that with any change
in Government the criminal may be dully forgiven, I too felt that for
the country, for its people the best solution is to hang the war
criminal. So when the verdict came, I was a bit disappointed. My
realization was that it was a win-win situation for AL. Now they don’t
have to burn too much wood explaining foreign countries, namely
Arabians, Europeans and America their stand in case a death sentence was
given. On the other hand they can direct their fingers to the judiciary
for not giving the highest penalty. Moreover, in case they lass the
2014 election, it will be up to BNP to decide what to do with those. So
never think that there will be any continuation of that process.
So when in FB I found the status of Lipi, we are going to Shahbag, please join us, I could see any further development. Fortunately we didn’t have to wait for long. People came out and made the history. One year is too little a time judge what happened, but unless we can read it, hardly we can move forward. In recent time young generation in many countries, equipped with modern technological support started different revolutions all over the world. And in most cases they were mislead. On the back of that revolutionary youth fundamental and reactionary forces grasp the power. Fortunately for Bangladesh, that didn’t happen. Non-the-less, we are thrown far away from that dream, we dreamt in those February days of 2013. Shahbag should have united all the pro Bangladeshi force together. But it was not to be. In many issues, they not only opposed one another but in many cases their stance also helped anti Bangladeshi force. Each party has their arguments, and to tell the truth, they are all logically well justified. But when you are passing a dangerous phase, it is better to discuss difference after reaching some safe point.
I still believe the pro Bangladesh political parties could have joined the just finished election and talk about how to make it successful and how to save lives and properties of hundreds that took place prior to and just after the election. While this force should face the fundamentalist together, their internal quarrel helped the anti Bangladeshi force hit at the very fundament of Bangladesh. So why did you join in Shahbag one year ago, if the same force armed with same ideology hit you today? Now everyone is taking part in election. But has anything changed? The AL Government is at the helm. And nobody is talking about it. Why? Only because given the non-political character of this election, not a single party is in a position to bar their party men from participating. Hope this will give the pro Bangladeshi forces another chance to work together. We should remember out disunity would make us stronger, neither morally nor physically. It will only strengthen those who we are supposed to fight against.
Long live shahbag.
